The great harmonica players often mixed spontaneous original ideas with well known licks to create new solos. Most of the time licks and riffs are “borrowed”, adapted and changed into new ones. It is rare when someone comes up with a totally fresh approach without relying on the tradition meaning blues phrases, riffs and scales.
